ORTHODONTICS FOR THE GDP

A full day in understanding the role of the general dental practitioner in diagnosis, treatment planning and execution of orthodontic treatment in suitable cases.

This day includes a morning session on the strategies for appropriate case examination and planning, with a reflection on various systems and their relative strengths and merits. The afternoon leads on to the relevance of the orthodontic-restorative interface and the important role of anterior guidance during function. During orthodontic treatment is can be very easy to create occlusal disharmony if the end goal of occlusion is omitted.

Objectives:

 

You will learn how to: 

 

  • Diagnose orthodontic malocclusion and assess the severity of the case.

  • Understand the pro's and con's of removable and fixed orthodontic systems.

  • Understand the importance of retention.

  • Learn the importance of maintaining anterior guidance through orthodontics.

  • Be familiar with cases both advisable for the general practitioner to treat and those to avoid.
